Music and fashion collide as artists take on a new meaning of smash hit. Just recently, we’ve seen Ciara working with TopShop and Rihanna with Dior. This time, it’s Sam Smith who is going from ballads to Balenciaga.
Smith collaborated with the fashion house for its upcoming F/W menswear collection and the British singer revealed the good news on Twitter. He will be not only be the face of their 2015 campaign, but also the first artist to be a part of a Balenciaga menswear campaign, Style.com reports.
Alexander Wang, creative director of Balenciaga, chose models Kate Moss and Lara Stone for his F/W womenswear campaign, but he said Smith’s attributes as a singer make him the perfect model for menswear. “He brings musicality and emotion to Balenciaga through his style, in every subtle gesture,” Wang said.
The Balenciaga promo cast Smith enclosed in brick-covered walls with only his tailored outfits, ice and minimal furniture. The ominous background music provided by Andy Stott complements the grayscale environment. Photographer Josh Olins shot the campaign.
