The resignation of the Home Office’s most senior civil servant, Sir Philip Rutnam, makes the front page of the Observer. The paper says it has called into question the future of Home Secretary Priti Patel after Sir Philip accused her of orchestrating a “vicious” campaign against him. Ms Patel has previously denied mistreating officials. The paper’s main front page picture is from the Instagram account of Boris Johnson’s partner, Carrie Symonds, who announced the couple are engaged and expecting a baby.

The Sunday Times also leads with the “chaos” at the Home Office, which it says has left the government “reeling” at a time when the department has a “pivotal role” with its plan for a post-Brexit immigration system. The paper also reports on the PM’s baby announcement, saying Mr Johnson predicted a Brexit baby boom and “has done his bit for the cause”.

Both the Home Office row and Mr Johnson’s personal news feature on the front page of the Mail on Sunday, but the paper leads with a “major new Whitehall storm”. The Mail has seen leaked emails by a senior government adviser who says agriculture and fishery production “certainly isn’t” critically important to the UK economy. The remarks from the adviser – who is a colleague of the PM’s strategist Dominic Cummings – are “astonishing”, the paper says.

The Sunday Telegraph’s main story and picture focuses entirely on the engagement and pregnancy news from Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds. The names Charlotte, James and Winston are said to be the bookies’ favourites for the baby, the paper says. Mr Johnson will be the first PM to marry in office for nearly 200 years.

The Sunday Mirror has spoken to four-time Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah, after the World Anti-Doping Agency said it would investigate all athletes who trained with Alberto Salazar – Sir Mo’s banned former coach. Sir Mo said he has “nothing to hide” and denied cheating. Sir Mo is not accused of breaking anti-doping rules.

The Daily Star takes aim at “kill joy council chiefs” who have cancelled plans for a charity plastic duck race amid concerns it could damage the environment. Organisers of the family event in Cumbria have been told to use lemons instead, the paper says.

Boxer Tyson Fury – who was recently crowned the new WBC heavyweight world champion – is on the front page of the Sunday People along with his wife, Paris. The paper says Paris wants her husband to stop boxing, over fears he could get badly hurt.
