Huawei Community (voice) recently published the full transcript of an interview with Huawei’s founder Ren Zhengfei in South China. Ren Zhengfei once again talked about the US ban and Huawei’s supply chain. He believes that it is impossible for Huawei to completely remove the US chip from the supply chain. According to him, this is impossible because American companies must also survive.
During the interview, the reporter asked whether Huawei has the ability to completely “de-Americanize” its supply chain? Ren Zhengfei said,
“This is impossible. American companies must survive, but only under certain standards, American companies can sell and supply. Now we still buy American devices in large quantities. However, if the US government raises the standard some will no longer sell and we will have replacements for these. Most American chip manufacturers are still selling, and will not fail to buy”.
Ren Zhengfei said that globalization has formed such a situation today, and there will be problems in the absence of any corner.
According to him, US companies, within the jurisdiction of the US Department of Commerce, apply to the Department of Commerce for a license, which can be provided after approval. The Ministry of Commerce has set a threshold, it must be controlled above the threshold, and it is still open below the threshold.
However, Ren Zhengfei also said that Huawei “can supply itself completely, but we are still buying Qualcomm chips. I don’t know how much we will buy this year. We used to buy tens of millions of chips every year.”
